When Les Miz played Shanghai I invited ourselves to the Consulate hoping for a party like this one, instead we got a policy lecture.
The ambassador and family are lovely and they get to live in a great house constructed in 1917 (I think).
They arranged for a special exhibit of Chicago in the 20's and Vaudeville art to be on loan from the Library of Congress. In attendance at our little soiree were Embassy staffers as well as diplomats from any number of countries, talk about rubbing elbows with some very fancy folk.
The food, p.s. was amazing. These are hollowed out eggs filled with avocado mousse topped with crab topped with caviar topped with a gold dipped macadamia. Yum.
